At a Glance
At the heart of individual therapy for OCD is a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help you reclaim your life from obsessions & compulsions. Read below for what you can expect from your therapeautic journey.
Initial Assessment
We begin by discussing your background & therapy goals, followed by a comprehensive assessment using the Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale (YBOCS) to identify and measure severity of symptoms. The first session is 60 to 90 minutes long. Completing the YBOCS may take two sessions. Discussing symptoms can be distressing, Through professional expertise and personal understanding, I create a judgement-free space where you can share your experiences openly.
Psycho-Education
You'll learn about the criteria for OCD, how it functions as a cycle, what makes symptoms worse, what breaks the cycle, common obsessions and compulsions, Exposure & Response Therapy, why it works, methods for addressing compulsions and more.
Customized ERP Therapy
Our work centers on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard for OCD treatment. We'll build a personalized exposure plan that gradually helps you face feared situations while resisting and addressing compulsions. This isn't random "face your fears" therapy, but a carefully calibrated approach that builds distress tolerance and provides a framework for how to address symptoms throughout life.

Throughout therapy, you'll develop the concrete skills to:
-
Recognize OCD cycles
-
Implement response prevention techniques to stop compulsions/rituals
-
Communicate effectively with loved ones about your needs
-
Overcome avoidance & feeling paralyzed
